Suction Cleaners
What is it?
A suction cleaner is virtually the same as a vacuum cleaner, as it attaches to the pool’s skimmer box. The suction cleaner only operates once the pool pump is switched on, and then moves around the bottom of the pool collecting debris by sucking it into the skimmer basket.
Best suited for:
• Pools that aren’t surrounded by a great deal of trees or foliage
• Pools that only attract smaller amounts of dirt or debris
• Budget conscious
Maintenance:
• Ensure you clean your pool filter media and skimmer basket regularly to maintain a good amount of suction to drive the cleaner.
Pressure Cleaners
What is it?
This type of cleaner operates from a dedicated return line and run by water pressure from the pump (by main circulation pump or a dedicated booster pump). The pressure cleaner is driven around the bottom of the swimming pool by the water pressure, and dirt and debris is then collected in the pressure cleaners own debris bag.
Best suited for:
• Pools that collect large debris (such as gum nuts, twigs, leaves etc…)
Maintenance:
• Empty the debris bag as often as possible to prolong operating efficiency, and prevent debris from decaying in the bag which can harm your water balance.
Robotic Cleaners
What is it?
Robotic cleaners have recently become a popular automatic cleaner in Australia over recent times. This cleaner differs from the previous two as it is operated separately from the pump and filter, and is instead driven by an electric motor inside the cleaner itself. Robotic cleaners (like the pressure cleaner), also collect dirt and debris n a bag or cartridge within the unit. As the name may suggest, Robotic cleaners have built-in intelligence preventing them from becoming stuck on pool steps or corners. With this intelligence, the Robot can usually provide a more thorough and complete clean than other types of automatic cleaners.
Best suited for:
• Pools of various shapes and sizes
• Pools that collect larger debris
Maintenance:
Ensure you remove your robotic cleaner from the pool after each use, and empty the filter canister regularly.
