You are here: How To Colour Selection Choosing A Colour

Choosing A Colour

Many people believe selecting a colour for their new pool is easy. With endless colour choices and finishes now available, this previously simple step in the pool installation process has become critical.

The types and colours available have increased over the years and now include quality paint and quartz finishes, all available in a rainbow of colours that allow you to customise your pool finish to suit you.

The colour you choose should harmonise with the colours around the backyard. The finish is also extremely important.  If simplicity is your style, there is a whole palette of colours available in traditional shades.  If you are after a bit more pizzazz, then you can’t go past the brilliance of the Decraflec range from Sapphire Pools that adds shimmer and sparkle to your pool or the Galaxy Cyber range from Buccaneer Pools, developed using advanced Mica technology.

Similar shades of blue shown in a classic colour (Image 2) and Galaxy Cyber (Image 3) demonstrate the distinct difference in the finishes of some of the pool colours available

Every range of colours has their advantages but you must carefully decide which finish will best complement your landscaping. You should also choose a colour and finish that is not a passing trend, as your pool colour will be visible for many years ahead.

The colour you choose for your new pool may also include fabulous psychological benefits. It is proven that blue or green colour schemes create a feeling of calm and relaxation which is why these colours are chosen for swimming pools and spas. If you are installing your new pool to be a soothing sanctuary then these colours are ideal. Warmer colours like Sandstone from Sapphire Pools can be a little more exhilarating for swimmers as it appears more like warmth and sunlight.

The tone of the colour you choose is another important decision. A paler shade of blue may look great at night-time, but appear washed out during daylight hours. The tone of colour should also complement any other landscape features you may have.

If your pool requires surrounding paving, the colour you choose can greatly impacts the way the pool colour looks in the backyard. This also depends on your own tastes and how the backyard is going to look as a whole.

Another important consideration is how the colour will look at night-time. Garden lights, patio lights and the pool light can dramatically change the way the pool looks in the darker hours (Images 4 & 5).
