Water Exercise for your Wellbeing

Water based exercise is a popular choice for many West Australians, particularly for those suffering health problems or recovering from injury. There are a growing number of different types of water-based exercise emerging, with the main two fields being Aqua-aerobics and Aqua Exercise

  Aqua Aerobics

Water Aerobics or 'Aqua Aerobics' is a fantastic way of keeping fit and toning up! Water based aerobics is a low impact and non-weight bearing form of exercise, as water can support around 90% of the body! It also helps support the body and reduces the chance of muscle of joint injury. Water aerobics is also well know for improving cardio-respiratory and musclar endurance over time, as well as toning and conditioning the major muscle groups.
  • Great for all fitness levels
  • Good for weight loss / fat burning
  • Builds strength and flexibility
  • Excellent cardio-respiratory exercise
After 30 minutes of an aqua aerobics session, you would have burnt approximately 300 calories!

Aqua Exercise

Aqua Exercise classes are designed to build strength and resistance, improving body tone, stength and mobility. The main benefit of exercising in water is that is offers resistance in multiple directions, in comparison to land exercise where you are only able to work against gravity.

Aqua Exercise is beneficial to anyone at risk from bodily stress, such as those who are overweight, the elderly or those recovering from soft tissue injury. Other benefits include:

  • Increased aerobic endurance
  • Greater flexibility
  • Increased muscle tone

If a class style of exercise isn't for you, then walking or jogging in water is also a great way to keep fit and tone your legs and strengthen your hips!
